This is petition for Keep the WISE HALL alive. Join the movement! Sign now!The Wise Hall has been a beacon of arts, culture, and a hive of social activity in East Van for more than 50 years. But as a wave of gentrification sweeps across this neighbourhood, recent arrivals have taken exception to this wonderful institution. A small number of the Wise Hall’s neighbours have been filing complaints about the Wise Hall on an almost daily basis. As a result, the Hall’s liquor licence is currently under review.
That licence is the only thing keeping the Wise open.
The purpose of this group is to show support for the Wise Hall and everything it adds to the community, and to ensure the powers that be don’t give in to a small smattering of NIMBYs. Don’t let a couple of ne’er-do-wells ruin a truly unique institution that is loved and valued by thousands of Vancouverites. Show your support for the WISE HALL and let the City of Vancouver know what the Wise Hall means to its East Van neighbours.

My First Year as a Woman, by Against Me!’s Laura Jane Grace
Laura: “Accomplishing small goals when transitioning has a cumulative effect. The confidence you gain from reaching one carries you to the next. Face your fears, I say, but choose the right skirt to do it in.”
Heather: “Laura’s coming out has made me realize, in regard to my own sexuality and ideas about gender, that it’s all more fluid than how society presents it. I’d always thought I was just straight. But now I know that really the right girl hadn’t come along yet. It’s exciting to know that I am still evolving.”

Non Band- Duncan Dancin’
Spastic Japanese no wave / post punk from the 80s. Very much in tune with the nyc no wave scene and the uk post punk stuff of the era. Really good stuff.
You can download their self titled album from 82 here, it’s pretty rare (or it was a few years ago at least).

Alejandro Guijarro photographs the chalkboards of some of the brightest minds in quantum physics for his continuing series Momentum. He went to research facilities like CERN and many of the top universities in the world to find them.
Looks like when I do homework.
